Positive parenting experiences in early childhood empower parents to build strong bonds with their children and attend to children's developmental needs, thereby giving them the conditions for a strong start in life. Research shows that unfortunately 70% of at-risk situations in infancy stem from poor parental care and weak family affiliation. Often, professionals working with parents lack the knowledge, skills and tools for dealing with the complexities of parental care, and may not be attuned to the parents' own needs.

Parents at the Center innovates by working directly with parents from at-risk populations in order to prevent and reduce educational, social and emotional risks for themselves and their children.  The program strengthens parents' ability to be responsible for their own development and the optimal development of their children.

Parents at the Center focuses on three key areas: knowledge, training for professionals, and programs for parents and for families (parents and children together) with children up to age six. These include prenatal programs for first-time parents, home activities for toddlers and parents, and training for social workers and preschool education staff to better relate to and communicate with parents. Training topics for professionals include: child development, parental development, development of the parent-child relationship, different parenting styles, and setting long and short-term goals.
